Welcome to another edition of Doodle time! This time, we deep dive into iconic video games, epic gaming moments, and ‘Just game things’! Prepare yourself for some nostalgia, and if you haven’t played any of these games, feel free to treat this as your wish list!
Pacman
The most iconic game of all time, Pacman (or Ms. Pacman for the purists) has found it’s way into every gamers life, be it through the actual game, movie references (yes, there’s a pacman movie) and of course, merchandise! Let’s not forget that legendary tidbit of trivia from the movie ‘Scott Pilgrim Vs The World’:
Did you know that the original name for Pac-Man was Puck-Man? You'd think it was because he looks like a hockey puck but it actually comes from the Japanese phrase 'Paku-Paku,' which means to flap one's mouth open and closed. They changed it because they thought Puck-Man would be too easy to vandalize, you know, like people could just scratch off the P and turn it into an F or whatever.
Anyway, here’s a great idea for a custom mask for any pacman fans!
Super Mario
We all grew up with various knock offs of this Nintendo classic platformer. Super Mario is the simple original platform runner, with a story of a plumber (and his brother Luigi- multiplayer FTW!) trying to save a princess in a castle. Whether you were fighting with your sibling for extra time on the controller, or rage quitting in the middle of a particularly frustrating dungeon speed run, Super Mario was an awakening for most of us as gamers (that, and Duck Hunt!). Here’s a super-nostalgic t-shirt for your favorite 8-bit nerd!
Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare
Everyone’s seen the meme ‘Press F to Pay Respects’. It’s been used and reused and appropriated to be a reaction to pretty much anything today! Little known fact, this meme originates from a scene Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, in which the player is prompted to pay respects at a funeral cutscene. Needless to say, this either works as a gift for a gamer, or just a netizen who reddits a lot!
The Last Of Us
Popularly regarded as one of the most gut-wrenchingly emotional storylines in gaming history, this post apocalyptic zombie survival horror game has a particularly beautiful and tranquil moment. Amidst the chaos of a post apocalyptic world, we find our two main characters finding solace in a moment where they spot a herd of Giraffes- a seemingly unthinkable moment of peace in the stress that is their lives. Make any TLOU fans tear up with printed poster rendition of this iconic scene!
The Witcher
Following the life of Geralt of Rivia, the Witcher tells the story of a special race of humans bred to fight monsters. Throughout the course of the game(s), Geralt learns and upgrades a series of spells that come with their own symbol or glyph. Here’s a great idea for your favorite Witcher fan- create a simple t-shirt with one of their favorite spells- Aard, Yrden, Axii, Igni, or Quen. We went with Axii cause it’s our favorite- because who doesn’t like good old fashioned mind control.
